The History of Malmir

In the beginning was Alphega who had nothing, and he started by creating ‘The 4’, the Elemental gods that strode the Astral Plane, creating anything they could conceive of. They were beings of spirit and element, each one encompassing one of the 4 key elements of Fire, Water, Earth and Wind.

As they wandered the Plane and found each other they fought, and from these fights were born the Dual elemental gods, full of the pure elemental power but lacking in the spirit and essence held within ‘The 4’. As the dust settled on each of these confrontations, the Gods engaged in a more civilised relationship, creating joint beings infused with both Elements and their Spirit. From this union, the Tri Elemental Gods were born.

As the 12 Gods roamed the Plane, creating where they pleased, they started to run into each other more and more, and frictions quickly rose. The Gods resorted to petty in-fighting, territorial disputes and aggressive actions, before The Alphega saw a need to resolve these without destroying the Astral Planes… and so the God Games were created, as was the land of Malmir.

Malmir was a place for the gods to fight without the need to corrupt the planes  - A bowl of land, surrounded by towering mountains and raging seas, Malmir was a place where Gods could create a single champion to fight it out on their behalf. The world started as a dust bowl, an empty location with nothing of note in it, but as the gods' champions started to battle within the bowl the world began to change, and life started to form within Malmir.

Countless champions were summoned into the world to resolve disputes, from minor inconveniences to large-scale wars, and the two competing Gods supported their champions from what is now known as the Isle of Jewels. When a champion fell, their body full of the magic, energy and spirit from their God would crash into the earth and lay there. As more arguments got settled this way, champion corpses got buried within the landscape, sometimes deep within mountains of stone, sometimes under rivers, lakes and pools, or sometimes very shallowly under the surface of the earth. As they broke down, the magic and spirit leached out from them, and the energy released was called Zeitathil.

Eventually, with the landscape scarred by battle, Alphega set about cleaning up after their creations. They seeded the world with peoples to populate and work with what was left, naturally bringing order back to a chaotic world. Over the ages that have passed since then, these seeds have grown into races, communities and creatures that can be found all of Malmir, living and working around the epicentres of magical energy contained within the Zetiathil in all its forms
